What style are you
Tutus or tap shoes? Hip-hop or salsa? How to choose the dance style that makes dancing fun and not an act of labour?
Dancing is a fun and friendly way of developing wellness and well being.
You have always wanted to dance and relate to the pain and the need to be continually being on your toes from rehearsals to performances. But what makes a dance style tick for you? How do you know which style will have you dancing like no one is watching?
To make this decision more comfortable for you, we have got some tips on choosing the best dance style which is perfect for you.
AGE
There has been a large debate going on for some time that, if you don’t start dancing at a young age, you can never become a professional.
I tend to disagree with this opinion. While starting at a young age certainly has it’s benefits, there is absolutely no reason an adult, with commitment to training, a love of dance and an iron will can’t rise to the top of their potential, even to the level of a professional.
You would have to dance your tail off.
INTEREST
One of the first things to consider, what dance style you find the most appealing. While it may not work out to be a perfect fit for you, a style you love should be one of the first things to try.
Maybe, it’s a dance style that has been practised in your family. Maybe a style you always gravitate towards on TV or the internet. Just be sure you try out your passion, and don’t fall into the trap of picking something easy just because you’re doubting your abilities. Even professionals started somewhere.
Over the coming weeks I will attempt to delve deeper into the many choices we have before us in the world of dance and look forward to maybe helping cast a little bit of light in helping guide you in a direction you will find both fulfilling and fun.
